Barak Marshall

Artistic Director & Choreographer

Born in Los Angeles, Barak Marshall is one of Israel's most distinctive creative voices and has served as the Artistic Director and Choreographer of the Inbal Dance Theatre since 2025. His debut piece, Aunt Leah, won first prize at the Suzanne Dellal Centre's choreography competition in 1995, while his 1998 work, Emma Goldman's Wedding, swept the awards at the prestigious Bagnolet International Competition in Paris.

In 1999, Ohad Naharin appointed Marshall as the first-ever Resident Choreographer of the Batsheva Dance Company. In collaboration with the Suzanne Dellal Centre, he went on to create acclaimed works including Monger (2008), Rooster (2009), and Wonderland (2011). He has also created original works for prominent international companies, including Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Rambert, BODYTRAFFIC, and Gauthier Dance, where he was named Resident Choreographer in 2024.

Beyond his work in contemporary dance, Marshall is an accomplished vocalist specializing in Middle Eastern and classical music, having performed alongside Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project. He holds a degree in social theory and philosophy from Harvard University. Upon assuming leadership at Inbal, he marked the beginning of his tenure by restaging Monger as his inaugural production as Artistic Director.
