Partisania

The dancers of the Inbal Dance Theatre journey along intersecting paths of heritage and renewal under the direction of choreographer Stav Struz. The work bridges the Yemenite-rooted traditions of Inbal with folk influences from the Caucasus and Eastern Europe, drawn from Struz's artistic practice. These distinct lineages converge into a single, expansive stage language—one that holds and activates all its collaborators.

Partisania begins with a deep exploration of the folk traditions of Georgia and Poland, reflected in its movement vocabulary, group architectures, musicality, and vivid visual world.

The work is also inspired by the 2018 film Cold War by Polish-Jewish director Paweł Pawlikowski, which traces the life of the Polish song-and-dance ensemble Mazowsze in the years following World War II.

In Partisania, the dancers navigate fragile, shifting group structures—constantly dismantling and reassembling formations in search of new, often imagined orders. Like partisans moving through a forest, they test unstable ground, seeking shared anchors: timing, form, touch, and presence—elements through which collective meaning can be rebuilt.

Space is continuously deconstructed and reconstructed as a condition for survival and motion. The dancers drift between fragmentation and cohesion, resistance and unison, gradually forging temporary alignments that point toward an ever-receding horizon.

They move with the memory of scarves, colors, and embodied histories, inhabiting the threshold between life and death, loss and continuity. Carrying a shared weight of culture, tradition, and inherited memory, they repeatedly return to one another as a point of cohesion.

The forests crossed by partisans in historical reality become, in this work, a metaphor for collective longing—a search for hope, fragile and persistent, that continues to guide movement forward.
